Background

mereliss was born the youngest and only daughter of three children. her mother died due to illness when she was very young, and mereliss only has a few memories of her. while she is still very much a lady, she was raised by her father and two older brothers. she is more than capable of protecting herself, and while she prefers to not raise any weapons, if she has to, she does prefer knives/daggers to a sword.the first casualty for her family during the ring wars is that of her eldest brother who dies during the first battle of the fords of isen. much to her relief her father, bertric, and hildred all survive the battle of helm’s deep. mereliss does everything in her power to at least convince her father to stay behind when the beacons of gondor are lit, but is unsuccessful. only hildred returns alive from the battle of pelennor fields.when lothiriel marries king eomer, mereliss is assigned to be one of lothiriel ladies. while she knows trust is not easily earned, she does make a great effort to earn it. and she helps both lothiriel and elanoreth settle into rohan.

mereliss acts older than she is. as from an early age she was the only lady of the house there were some responsibilities that fell onto her shoulders. she is kind and gentle, but is down right stubborn and unmoving when she wants to be. she’s not shy but she does tend to stick to those she knows well rather than bounce around the room and talk to everyone.she’s an excellent rider, spending most of her childhood in the saddle racing off after her brothers. but she also inherited her mother’s talent for needlework, and singing.

Background

elanoreth’s father and imrahil had been almost life long friends, so elanoreth grew up along side lothiriel and her brothers as childhood friends. though that friendship really strengthens when her father dies of illness when she is twelve. her close friendship with lothiriel is honored when she asks elanoreth to be one of her ladies, an offer elanoreth happily accepts.as dol amroth is one of the last strongholds during the ring wars, she is lucky enough to have a pleasant childhood, untouched by the war’s darkness. as she grows older she does understand the seriousness of it. three of her cousins are old enough to go fight under imrahil. (luckily they all return home alive)when lothiriel marries eomer and becomes queen of rohan, elanoreth decides to move to rohan with lothiriel. while it took some time and convincing, her mother does end up supporting her daughter’s choice. and despite being nervous at first, she does come to love rohan and it’s people. a part of her will always miss dol amroth and she visits her mother and brother whenever she can.

elanoreth can be rather shy upon first meeting, though once you get to know her, she’s bright and talkative. she has a love for music and art, and reading. elanoreth is rather accomplished with the harp, can beautifully recite poetry and a beautiful singing voice. though she does freeze up if she ever has to preform anything in front of large crowds.she can be rather stubborn, and will skillfully argue her point in any debate. most debates are with her brother who she has always been close too. and said debates have gotten rather heated to where they end up not talking to each other for up to days. (the longest stretch was 4 days before finally their mother had to intervene)she knew how to swim before she could walk. she is fluent in westron, and sindarin, and later rohirric, though she does struggle with it at first.

Background

back in the time of myth and legend iara and her sisters lured sailors to their death with their songs. but men in their constant search for power and glory, bound iara and her sisters to mortal forms (though they were still left with their immortal lives)for many years iara traveled the world in search of a way to undo what had been done to her. sometimes with her sisters, and sometimes alone. but her anger could only last so long. while one day she hopes to return to her former self, iara finally accepts what has happened, though she does still hold on to some of that anger and doubts she will ever let go of it.iara found herself rather drawn to children. she’s amused by their blunt honesty. she started an orphanage alongside her sister andromeda, (in modern settings the two adopt children, and give them the loving home they deserve along with running several programs.) while she herself cannot have children she loves all those under her care as her own. though sometimes she still wonders, for the world is vast and ever changing and there is some curiosity too.iara is full of fire and clever wit. she has a great deal of patience, especially with her children, with them it’s almost endless. but with adults her patience runs out fairly quickly and she has very little time for bullshit.

she had a vast hunger for knowledge. she speaks several languages, plays several instruments and has a vast collection of books. she still does search for a way to undo the magic that has been done so rare books and artifacts are of a special interest to her. she can be rather charming when she chooses too. (her sister selene is one most skilled in combat not that iara isn’t fully capable, she just prefers to use her words first.)while her powers were mostly lost, some of it still lingers. she doesn’t do it often, but when she sings in the company of other people, she can captivate the entire room. she also can just about talk her way out of any sort of trouble. this stems from the little bit of magic she has left. (*more info about her magic to come)she still feels incredibly connected to the sea, and she never stays far from its shores.iara is hesitant to trust men, most of this is rooted in her own anger . she’ll give some a chance, for she knows not all men are driven by greed, but very few. and fewer have even won not only her trust but friendship.

portrayal notes: when it comes to the kind of person he is, his morals and actions, i stick with what i like to call show richard. (i talk about why and the differences between show and book richard here ) the only things aspects i take from the books in relation to richard is some back ground information, magical abilities and a couple of plot points

Background

richard was born in brennidon, shortly before darken rahl’s army began the massacre of all first-born sons there. luckily, the first wizard zeddicus took him across the boundary to the westland. richard grew up in hartland, the main province of westland, separated from the midlands by one of the boundaries. his adoptive parents were george and mary cypher along with their son michael.book info i have incorporated
- zedd and richard have always been friends, and he saw zedd as a mentor long before he became the seeker.*i personally am unsure on which route i want to take in terms of richard’s true parentage when it comes to his main verse so anything related to that will have to be discussed in plotting. however jennsen is his sister, and zedd is his maternal grandfather, across all verses

Powers

as the seeker, richard has several unique character traits on the verge of magic: although he dislikes riddles, he is driven to always find the truth of things and is extremely proficient at it, apparently by instinct. also, he has a temper that sometimes acts on whim. since otherwise his personality is quite pleasant and optimistic, albeit impatient, the anger appears to stem mainly from his being a seeker.the sword of truth, is the unique magical weapon of the seeker. anger may very well be called the primary characteristic of a seeker. without it, the sword, and most of his combat abilities, which are linked to it, would be next to useless, even dangerous to its wielder. aside from its main function, the sword of truth possesses other qualities, usually in relation to certain other powerful magics however, the sword is not the weapon, the seeker is. it is the unique personality and abilities, supported by the powers of the sword, that make a seeker capable of influencing events at a grand scale. accordingly, the seeker is held in extraordinarily high esteem throughout the new world and granted complete independence from monarchs and governments.war wizard - one born with the gift in its full form, both subtractive and additive magic.

The Seeker

before becoming seeker, richard was a simple woods guide. until he stumbled onto kahlan amnell, while she was being attacked by d'haran soldiers. not knowing he was the true seeker she left. at the time richard was bitten by a deadly snake vine and got sick over time.when he arrived home, d'haran troops were searching for him, and his father george cypher told him to go find zedd. when richard arrived at zedd’s he found kahlan there, as she was searching for zedd in order to get him to name the seeker. zedd revealed to richard that he is the first true seeker the world has known in a thousand years, destined to wield the powerful sword of truth, and defeat the evil tyrant darken rahl.

Background

kahlan’s mother died when she was 5. after her mother’s death, her father was unconfessed and he took kahlan and her sister dennee, and forced them to use their powers to do his bidding. after a while another confessor found them and took them away from their father.sometime after this, kahlan was taken to be taught and trained in aydndril by other confessors. unfortunately, kahlan only saw evil for a long time, which caused her to lose some compassion and trust in people. richard, throughout the series, helps her see that people can be trusted, and kahlan learns to trust and love again.kahlan and dennee started out together to find the one true seeker and give him the book of counted shadows. however, dennee was hit by an arrow shot by a solider and presumed dead. kahlan was left then to continue on alone. she finds zedd with the night wisp, shar, and soon after, richard.the d'haran solider tells the people of hartland that kahlan is a witch so they will not trust her. he also tells them that richard is under her spell so that the people will not trust him either. after they then go through the boundary, kahlan helps guide richard through the midlands on his journey as the new seeker.

a confessor’s power is described as the power of love. if a confessor could obtain contact with a person, she could release her power into that person at the speed of thought. after having been touched, a person lost his or her sense of self and would do anything and everything demanded by the confessor.confessor's touch: as long as the confessor could touch the victim directly (clothing and armor posed no obstacle) the power could be delivered with absolutely no defense. when touched, the magic amplified the capacity for love that all humans had and directed it towards the confessor; as such, this power was considered additive magic.the con dar also known as the bloodrage, is the subtractive counterpart to the additive magic of the confessor's touch. confessors' usual powers come from love and compassion. correspondingly, the con dar originates in vengeance and hate. it’s an unstoppable rage, often ending with the death of everyone around them. confessors in the con dar are able to confess multiple targets without touching their necks, use of telekinesis magic, the summoning of lighting, as well as increased combat and reflexes.
